What are hazard alarm systems?

Hazard alarm systems (HAS) is a collective term for all types of alarm systems that are capable of independently recognizing dangers or reporting them via telecommunication technology. They are used to reliably warn and thus protect people and property against dangers such as intrusion, fire and robbery.

The term hazard alarm systems (HAS) includes the following types of systems, among others:

A number of VdS and DIN regulations must be observed for the installation and operation of HAS. If VdS certified systems are to be operated, these systems must be type-approved and may only be installed and maintained by VdS-approved installers.

Why are hazard alarm systems important?

  • Early detection of fires: Sensors react to smoke, heat or flames and detect fires at an early stage.
  • Protection against burglaries and robberies: through deterrence and the triggering of alarms in the surrounding area.
  • Rapid alerting: Fire alarm systems and emergency alarm systems trigger alarms immediately, reducing the response time of the fire service, police and emergency services.

What are the functions of an alarm system?

An alarm system detects security-related threats such as burglary, fire or attacks and reliably reports them. This ensures that people are warned at an early stage and property is effectively protected.

How long does a battery last in a fire alarm system?

Depending on the model, the rechargeable batteries have a service life of 6 to 9 years or 10 to 12 years (Long Life). However, as fire alarm systems must use VdS-approved rechargeable batteries, these must be replaced by law after 4 years at the latest – regardless of how long the battery would technically last.

Which batteries are suitable for a security alarm system?

Depending on the system, 6V or 12V batteries from SUN Battery and LiFePO4 batteries from LiBrick are suitable options. Sealed, maintenance-free AGM lead-acid batteries with VdS approval (e.g. 12V models with 12Ah, 24Ah or 40Ah) are particularly suitable.
