The different types of 12 V rechargeable batteries

12V rechargeable batteries come in a wide variety of types. From small Consumer batteries, such as a 12 V camera battery, right through to lead-acid AGM batteries and Pure lead industrial batteries you’ll find every type of rechargeable battery in our B2B Battery-Kutter shop.

In industry, 12-volt rechargeable batteries are mainly used in the form of AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries, lead-acid batteries, gel batteries (GEL) or pure lead batteries. Depending on the type of battery, they are used in a wide variety of applications. The batteries from our own brands, SUN Battery and SSB Battery, represent AGM batteries featuring the latest technology.

Lead-acid batteries – also known as AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries – are sealed, valve-regulated batteries. The AGM battery is protected against electrolyte (acid) leakage by the built-in glass fibre mat. It is also highly versatile, with applications including backup and safety systems, as well as many other areas of use. Thanks to the special TPPL (Thin Plate Pure Lead) technology, the PLP series pure lead-acid batteries offer an extremely long service life of up to 20 years and high temperature resistance (−40 °C to +65 °C).

The 12 V batteries are ideal as back-up power sources for various security systems such as burglar and fire alarm systems, smoke and heat extraction systems, as well as for emergency power systems (UPS), medical equipment, tools and much more.

How long does a 12 V battery last?

The service life of batteries and rechargeable batteries varies depending on their design and technology. Whilst lead-acid batteries generally have a service life of 3–5 years, more modern lead-acid batteries with absorbent glass mat (AGM) and gel batteries can last for 5–7 years. Pure lead-acid batteries featuring TPPL technology, such as the SSB Battery Pure Lead Power range, can even achieve a service life of up to 20 years. To ensure you can make full use of your batteries’ service life, it is essential to look after them properly and regularly. In doing so, you should pay particular attention to the following points:
