About us

Joachim Kutter founds today's Battery-Kutter company under the name TKL: The story of Battery-Kutter starts in 1989 in the Kutter family's detached house in Hamburg Poppenbüttel. The private garage serves as storage space for the batteries. The business quickly begins to grow and is relocated to a nearby office building.

Our sister company Wamtechnik is founded in Poland: With our sister company Wamtechnik in Warsaw, we are now one of the market leaders in the battery pack production sector on the Polish market. The EN ISO 9001-certified company has received various awards. It is one of the top 5 European battery pack manufacturers and is also one of the most modern and technically advanced companies in Europe.

Hendrik Kutter joins the company: After training as a wholesale and foreign trade merchant, Hendrik Kutter joins his father's company. He later successfully completes a degree in business administration and, alongside Joachim Kutter, becomes Managing Director of Battery-Kutter.

Move to new premises: The business premises in Poppenbütteler Bogen are occupied. They will remain the home of Battery-Kutter until 2020.

Launch of our own brand SUN Battery: Our own brand SUN Battery is launched on the market. It stands for AGM batteries of the highest quality and the latest technology and offers a large selection of VdS-approved batteries.

Kai Kutter follows his brother: The youngest son Kai Kutter joins the family business in 2005 after completing a commercial apprenticeship and studying business administration. Kai has also been Managing Director of Battery-Kutter since 2009.

Julia von Kap-herr (née Kutter) completes the management of the family business: After training as an advertising manager and studying marketing in London, Julia has also been working alongside her brothers since 2006. She has been in charge of the marketing department ever since.

Joachim Kutter retires from the active business: Joachim Kutter leaves the operational business in 2008 and goes into well-deserved retirement. He is delighted that his three children are successfully continuing the family business and hopes that Battery-Kutter will remain a family-run company for generations to come.

Battery-Kutter receives DIN EN ISO 9001 certification: Battery-Kutter has been a DIN EN ISO 9001-certified company since January 2013. The certificate covers the quality management system in the following scope: development, production, sales and service of batteries, accumulators, charging technology, protective circuitry and battery monitoring.

Auditing by Siemens: Battery-Kutter is audited by Siemens Schweiz AG – Building Technology Division in accordance with VDA 6.3 (2nd edition) and confirmed as a preferred supplier.

Battery-Kutter obtains exclusive distribution and brand rights for SSB Battery: Battery-Kutter has secured the exclusive distribution rights to the SSB Battery brand. The exclusive brand rights will be added in 2021. Sales will be significantly expanded as a result.

Battery-Kutter is one of the fastest-growing companies in Germany: Battery-Kutter is named ‘Growth Champion’ for the first time, making it one of the fastest-growing companies in Germany according to a survey conducted by FOCUS in cooperation with STATISTA.

Our mission statement: Team leaders and management jointly revise the existing company mission statement and adapt our values, general and guiding principles to the company structures that have evolved over time.

Growth Champion 2020: This year, Battery-Kutter has been named Growth Champion by FOCUS and STATISTA for the second time in a row. According to FOCUS, companies with this honour are important innovators and drivers of economic growth, they create jobs and help to secure Germany as a business location.

The current company building is inaugurated in Norderstedt: Due to steady growth and in order to be equipped for the future, Battery-Kutter moves to a larger company building. The new company premises cover 6,000 m² and an in-house warehouse with 2,300 pallet spaces.

Bastian Valentin becomes an authorised signatory: Bastian Valentin starts at Battery-Kutter as Sales Manager in 2012. Today, Bastian is Head of Sales and is appointed an authorised signatory due to his outstanding performance.

Growth champion 2021: Hard to believe, but true: According to FOCUS and STATISTA, Battery-Kutter is once again one of the fastest-growing companies in Germany this year.

Hamburg's Best Employers 2022: We are delighted to have been awarded the ‘Hamburg's Best Employers 2022’ seal of approval. The award is based on qualified empirical surveys of employees and managers and standardised audits. That's what makes this seal so special.

Growth Champion 2022: Above-average growth in turnover and employees - with these characteristics, Battery-Kutter has impressively established itself on the list of the 500 FOCUS Growth Champions for the fourth time in a row, making it one of the fastest growing companies in Germany.

INOTEC Special Award for Quality & Technology 2022: Battery-Kutter is one of INOTEC Sicherheitstechnik GmbH's top suppliers and has been honoured with the Special Award for Quality & Technology 2022.

We have received DIN EN ISO 14001 certification: In December 2023, Battery-Kutter will receive DIN EN ISO 14001 certification. The certificate covers the environmental management system with the following scope: development, sales and service of batteries, accumulators, charging technology, protective circuitry and battery monitoring, production of batteries in accordance with the Product Liability Act.

Growth champion 2023: Battery-Kutter is one of the 500 fastest-growing companies in Germany for the 5th time in a row. With this annual award, FOCUS and STATISTA recognise the growth champions that are characterised by above-average growth in turnover and employees.

Battery-Kutter is one of the Top Employers 2023: The employer rating platform kununu has recognised Battery-Kutter as a ‘Top Company 2023’. This makes us one of the companies with the best working environment in Germany. The award is based on the independent ratings of employees or former employees on the platform.

Launch of our own brand LiBrick
With LiBrick, we offer you a comprehensive range based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. The cells are available either in standard lead casings or in heat-shrink tubing with protective circuitry. The range is complemented by LiBrick UP10 – our modular UPS battery storage system, which combines high efficiency with a compact design.

New finishing hall
Top charging of our batteries now takes place in our new finishing hall, which is adjacent to our current premises. In order to offer our customers the best possible service, we can charge up to 1 million batteries per year in the new hall. In addition, almost 2 million battery measurements can be carried out in this area each year. A large proportion of our processes have also been automated.

Anniversary trip to Mallorca
To mark the company's 30th anniversary, all Battery-Kutter employees were invited to Mallorca as a thank you for their tremendous dedication and outstanding commitment. The trip brought us even closer together as a team, and we look back on some wonderful shared experiences.

We are immensely proud and delighted that Battery-Kutter has been named Growth Champion for the sixth time in a row: in 2024, we once again recorded above-average growth in turnover and employee numbers.

Our company, LiBrick ESS GmbH, is part of the Battery-Kutter Group and specialises in stationary battery storage systems. Our portfolio includes turnkey megawatt systems from a single source: from design and analysis to consulting and calculation to delivery and implementation.

Establishment of a new branch in Athens
With the establishment of a branch in Athens, we are expanding the distribution of our SSB Battery and SUN Battery brands in South-Eastern Europe.
