In 2026, the battery industry will face technological change that will drive several developments simultaneously. The most important trends include AI-supported battery management systems, the expansion of battery energy storage systems, large-scale recycling solutions and the introduction of new cell technologies. These developments aim to make battery systems safer, more durable and more economical.

A key trend is the use of artificial intelligence in battery management. AI-based systems enable continuous real-time monitoring of battery status, detect deviations at an early stage and support predictive maintenance. This reduces safety risks and extends the usable life of batteries.

At the same time, battery energy storage systems (BESS) are continuing to gain in importance. They play a key role in the integration of renewable energies by balancing peak loads, stabilising power grids and supporting a reliable energy supply for industry, data centres and critical infrastructures.
